How to prevent those chapped winter lips

No woman likes the idea of walking around town with not-so-luscious lips. Unfortunately, a simple case of chapped lips can quickly turn into a cracked and bleeding pout. Gross. To keep your pucker smooth and healthy during those harsh winter months, try and follow a few or all of these simple tips.

1) Moisturize with balms. Use lip balm, Vaseline or other lip moisturizers liberally in order to protect the delicate skin on your lips from harsh elements. Make sure to apply a protective layer before venturing outside into the wind or cold.

2) Drink plenty of water. Just like your face, your lips need to stay hydrated in order to remain healthy.

3) Avoid licking your lips. Many of us unconsciously (or consciously!) lick or bite our lips when they start getting chapped, which can worsen the condition. Instead, slather on lip balm and try to distract yourself from the uncomfortable sensation.

If these tips don’t safely see you through the winter, consult a primary care physician or a dermatologist.
