Is your skin looking dry, dull or lackluster? These common winter complaints are the result of cold air and blustery winds taking their toll on your complexion. But if you’re tired of looking less than your best, there is something you can do – exfoliate!
Exfoliating involves removing the oldest skin cells on the outermost layer of your epidermis. When accomplished correctly, it allows you to sport a healthier, more glowing appearance.
Keep in mind it’s easy to get a little over-enthusiastic when it comes to exfoliating. If you exfoliate too much or too often, you won’t just slough off dead skin cells – you’ll remove live ones, too, leaving your skin red, raw and irritated (not exactly the definition of fresh-faced, don’t you think?). In fact, too much exfoliation can do a lot more harm than good.
Instead of exfoliating every day, replace your scrub with a gentle, soap-free cleanser to be used morning and night. Every other day, sub out your cleansing routine for exfoliation, gently massaging the scrub into your skin and rinsing away dry, dead skin cells to reveal a bright and healthy-looking complexion.
Those of you with especially sensitive skin may even want to limit your exfoliating routine to once a week.
And soon enough, that youthful-looking glow will be yours for the taking.
