Jumping jacks aren’t just for kids

Remember when you used to play double-dutch and hopscotch on the playground? Turns out, those games aren’t just fun – they’re also great for your heart, your body and even your mental health. Maybe that’s why more and more adults are returning to the basics when it comes to getting a great workout.

Back in October of 2011, Michelle Obama – with the help of some 300,000 middle schoolers and other participants – broke the world record for most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period as part of her Let’s Move initiative to end childhood obesity (is our First Lady awesome or what?).

But it’s not just kids that Mrs. Obama is motivating – everybody can benefit from a little extra exercise, especially when it’s fun! In fact, more and more gyms are incorporating exercises like jumping rope into their workouts because they’re exciting, easy and good for you. Can you say “nostalgia?’”

So next time you hit the gym, don’t rule out your favorite games from childhood. Your body – and your inner child – will thank you.
