Seeing red

Brunettes may be best and blondes may have more fun, but these days, a different hair color is ruling the roost in Hollywood – red! With vixens like Christina Hendricks and Emma Stone sweeping up all the awards these days, it seems like everyone wants to go red. If you’re thinking of rocking this sexy and unique hair color, here’s what you need to know before taking the plunge.

Red hair can work on ladies of any coloring, but it’s important to consider your natural hair and your skin tone before you settle on a shade. If you’re light-skinned with freckles and pale eyes, a bright, vibrant strawberry blonde is your best bet. But if you’re tan and dark, a deeper auburn or even chestnut will likely be a better option. For the best results, you should never stray more than a couple of shades away from your natural hair color.

If you go red, you’ll have to think about changing up your makeup and fashion, too. Golds, greens and blues look best on redheads when it comes to fancy dresses or casual lunch outfits. As for your makeup, stay away from anything too red or orange that could clash with your locks.

And finally, don’t forget that red hair coloring fades quickly (I learned this one the hard way). Make sure to use color-preserving hair products to get the most out of your shade.
