Start 2012 with bangin’ bangs

It's 2012, and that can only mean one thing for your hair: you've only got until the end of the Mayan calendar to do away with the old set of bangs you've been rocking and give the newest fringe trend a whirl. That said, here are a few of the best bang looks to show up on our radar lately (with the most potential to become a 2012 mainstay).

Bangs a la Zooey Deschanel. America's newest sweetheart has left a trail of adoring followers behind her, and we wouldn't be surprised if the small demographic of women sporting a Deschanel-style fringe will only continue to grow this year. This is one of those styles that starts from the middle of your head and ends in long, wavy bangs that don't try too hard to sit in place. A slight part in the middle might be the trademark characteristic here.

Blunt bangs. If you've traditionally gone for subtlety with your fringe, 2012 might be the year to make one clean cut across your forehead (we say the shorter, the better). This is a style that works especially well with bone-straight hair, so consider changing up your styling routine if you weren't blessed with naturally sleek tresses.

Rounded, seventies-style bangs. These bangs typically form a sleek arc from temple to temple that's shortest in the middle and longer on the sides. TodayFash.com says, “Renowned for their ability to bring out cheek bones, [rounded bangs] also give a feminine frame to the face and can easily conceal a broad forehead."

Asymmetrical bangs. When the world's about to tilt on its axis, you should too. This season consider an edgy diagonal sweep across your forehead. If you're feeling even more experimental, consider an artfully designed "I just took my scissors and hacked away" look. Done with the right eye and precision, this is a look that can scream "haphazard bombshell" but deliver a punch that's way more pulled together than you'd think at first glance.

Down-to-there bangs. This might be the year that fringe goes way down to there. Of course, you don't want to take things too far. Bangs that graze your cheekbones are your most surefire way to get all of the right attention.
