A lot of us look to celebrities for inspiration for our new hairstyle but in actuality, it’s best we look at face shape rather just selecting the hottest celebrity’s look. Each face shape has a look that brings out their features. There are certain haircuts, layers, bangs, colors and more that work well with different face shapes. Are long layers for you? Will short bangs or side swept bangs work best for your face shape? Do short crops work best for you? We will share the hottest styles that complement you!
How do you determine your face shape?
Pull your hair off your face and look into a mirror and trace the outline of your face with lipstick or eyeliner on the glass. Or you can pull your cell phone out and take a picture of yourself with your hair off of your face. This will give you a clear look at your face shape. There are 5 basic shapes: round, square, oval, long, and heart-shaped. Which one are you?
Round: Generally a round face has a full cheek and round chin.
Long layers instantly lengthen your face. You can also opt for side swept bangs that look great on a round face. If you decide to do an updo-, volume, volume, volume is key! Some famous round faces: Kirsten Dunst, Viola Davis, Hayden Panettiere, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah
Square:Typically have a strong jawline and the same width from top to bottom. You want to soften the angles of your face by having soft bangs. Tousled curls and texture look really great on square faces as well. Some famous square faces: Taraji P. Henson, Demi Moore, Christina Milian, Nicki Minaj, Angelina Jolie.
Oval:They have a very balanced symmetrical face. Just about any length or style works for you lovely oval shaped ladies. Short crops look awesome on oval faces. Also longer bangs a little below the brows look great on Oval faces. Long hair and side part= amazing! Some famous oval faces: Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Uma Thurman, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Heart Shaped: Literally like a heart shape- a narrow chin in contrast to your forehead. Chin lengthed bobs work great and balance out your chin. Also, brow skimming bangs help divert attention from a large forehead. Long layers work well too! Some famous heart shaped faces: Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Gabrielle Union, Rihanna, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Rashida Jones , Michelle Williams, Regina King
Long: Oblong face (can be a mixture of the other shapes too!) Create more width by getting bangs. Instead of bone straight hair which can make your face appear even longer, add some texture to your hair! Some famous Long shaped faces: Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Gayle King, Hilary Swank
