Okay, so maybe spring is not quite here yet, but one can dream, right? A great way to get rid of those winter blues is by getting into the spring state of mind through makeup! Here are a few ideas to try out to escape from that winter makeup rut.
Pretty Pastels: Pastels are soft, sweet and perfect for Spring. Try incorporating this color palette to your entire face for a (surprisingly) wearable but fun look. Start by applying a light lilac shade onto the eyelid, blending up until the crease. Revlon’s Illuminance Creme Shadow in Wild Orchids has the perfect color for achieving this look. Next, define your upper lash line with a liquid liner, winging out the end a bit for a flattering look. Grab a stippling brush and apply a bright, pastel pink blush to brighten up your face. My absolute favorite bright pink blush is Elf’s Studio Blush in Pink Passion. Not only does it cost 3 dollars(!), it also delivers a gorgeous color that trumps any high-end blush I’ve tried. To finish off the look, slick on Revlon’s Lilac Pastelle Super Lustrous Lipgloss for a glossy, pastel pout.
Bold Lips and Brows: Since winter makeup is generally applied heavier and darker, opt for a minimalistic, modern look for spring. Bold, look-at-me lips and defined eyebrows is a simple yet high-impact combination. To achieve this “cool-girl” look, ditch your foundation for the day and simply conceal the areas you find necessary. A great drugstore concealer is Revlon’s PhotoReady Concealer, which despite coming in stick form, is surprisingly creamy and easy to work with. Next, get to work on emphasizing your eyebrows. To darken, thicken and extend your natural brows without looking unnatural, I recommend Revlon’s ColorStay Brow Enhancer— this product’s tinted wax will define and keep brows in place. A vibrant, loud lipstick applied directly from the bullet to the lips finishes this makeup look. It’s up to you to decide which color you want to use: hot pinks, oranges, reds and even purples all look amazing paired with bold brows. My favorite affordable lipstick for this look is Revlon’s Lipstick in Wine with Everything; this color is actually not a wine color, but a beautiful tomato red which delivers that desired shock of color.
Mermaid makeup: For this look, draw inspiration from the ocean with sea-foam green eyes, bright cheeks and lush lashes. After applying a dewy tinted moisturizer to the face, pat on the sea-foam color to the eyelids and blend up slightly into the crease. My favorite color for this is definitely the second color down on the right side of Wet n Wild’s Pride Palette. Next, after curling your eye lashes, apply a dramatic set of falsies like Revlon’s Fantasy Length Lashes. If you are allergic to latex based lash glue, try Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive, which is latex free and super easy to use. To complete your mermaid look, apply a sparkly, bright pink blush to your cheeks. Elf’s Fuschia Fusion Studio Blush is the perfect color for this look. Now all you need is long, wavy mermaid hair and you’re set!
