Damage control: Why you should give your hair a break

Constant styling can fry any woman's locks crispier than bacon. Of course, every woman knows how unfortunate unhealthy hair can be – it breaks, lacks a shiny glow and creates havoc and pain when trying to style.

Hair damage is typically caused by harsh chemicals such as bleach, perms and excess coloring, using heat appliances such as hot rollers, flat irons and hair dryers, as well as embracing more low-quality hair products than good ones.

Here's the bad news – repairing the damaged hair is almost impossible since it's likely already dead. However, a few tricks can make a world of a difference when it comes to attaining luscious locks and feeling fantastic. Here are the top three.

1) Say goodbye to harsh chemicals. This means taking a break from bleaching, coloring or chemically straightening your tresses. Let the new hair grow in healthy and undamaged.

2) Condition like a pro. Invest in a good quality conditioner and stop washing your locks every day – chemicals in the tap water and shampoo strip it of naturally protective oils.

3) Tell heat to beat it. Let your mane dry naturally for once! You never know how your 'do will look once you do.

Another trick? Learning to love your natural tresses. Remember – some gal out there is longing for your locks while you're pining away for hers.
