How to achieve a perfect brow

Without presentable eyebrows there is really no point in putting on makeup! Your eyebrows really do help frame your face.  So,I really wish someone kept the tweezers away from me during my preteen years.  Let’s just say the 1920’s inspired eyebrow look was not too flattering on me.  And if you’ve been there too, then you know how long it takes to grow them back.  That being said,my childhood mishap inspired me to compile a short guide to defining brows! Thank me later.

Trim Time!  Before we try to correct with cosmetics, let’s manually get these bad boys in shape.  Start with brushing your brows upward.  Once brushed up,look for excessively long hair.  Trim these hairs so that you have an even shape.  And BE CAREFUL not to take too much off!

Know the Shape.  Understanding what goes where tends to make brow shaping a lot more clear. The brow should begin at your tear duct and end at the outer corner of your eye.  The arch (which seems to be the tricky part) should be placed at the edge of your iris.

Pluck It!  Alright,so you understand you natural eyebrow shape,so now pluck any stray hairs.  Make sure to use good tweezers,it can make all the difference. I love Tweezerman’s Slant Tweezer ($20.00.) (Note:Run a wash cloth under warm water and dab over you brows. This will open you pores and release the hairs easily.  Which means LESS PAIN? Yay!

Color In!  Finally, its time to fill in the gaps!  So you need to determine how dramatic of a look you’re going for.  This will then lead you to a pencil or powder.  Milani Easy Brow Automatic Pencil always saves the day for me.  It’s a soft textured pencil,so use a soft touch. It has a built in brow brush that helps you soften the look.

Start with light strokes mimicking the appearance of tiny hairs.  Fill in all the scarce areas.  Before you know it you will have a full brow! Go over your brows with the built in brush to help soften each stroke so they blend with your natural hair.

If pencils aren’t your thing, try a brow powder.  Or even better search through your natural eye shadows.  You are bound to find a shade of brown that works for you.  I am quite fond of M.A.C.  shadows in Mystery and Espresso. Use an eyebrow brush to fill in areas, and to blend the look, sweep the color over the entire brow.  The best thing about using shadows for you brows is that you can start with a soft and natural look and you can build the brow if needed.

Gel It! Last but not least, use an eyebrow gel to keep the brow in place.  M.A.C. Brow Set Gel in clear is amazing.  I don’t bother with the colored brow gels.  Clear works on everyone!

So there you go.  You’re on the way to a perfect brow.
