The face gets all the best treatment. We cleanse, tone, moisturize and exfoliate our faces daily. Look at the millions upon millions of articles and videos dedicated to how to properly exfoliate one’s face. Where’s the love for the parts of you below the neck? Let me tell you this, if you are not exfoliating your ENTIRE body then you are missing out – majorly.
Why should I scrub the rest of my body? Do it for the same reasons you scrub your face, silly rabbit. But, if you need a refresher course, here you go:
• Removing the top layer of dead skin will help regenerate the collagen in the skin.
• It helps increase the turnover rate of epidermal skin.
• It helps reduce the nasty age spots and surface scarring
• It helps prevent the buildup that leads to clogged pores and breakouts
• Etc, etc, so on and so forth.
It is especially important to exfoliate as you get into your mid to late 30s, this is when the skin cell turnover slows down. It becomes increasingly important that you give it a bit of help
How often should I exfoliate below the neck? It is recommended that you exfoliate the face about 2 -3 times per week. Body skin is a bit less delicate, so it can take a good sloughing about 3-4 times per week. I know you feel all soft and sexy afterward but anything more than 4 times per week and you’re risking damage to your skin. If you have sensitive skin, two times per week is plenty. Look out for any indications of skin irritation.
How pray tell do I scrub my body? There are so many ways that you can scrub your body. You can purchase a body scrub from any drug store or many cosmetic counters. Loofahs are also a good way to scrub away those dead skin cells. My very favorite approach is the dry brush method. This is where you take a body brush and simply brush you dry body in a circular motion. This should be done right before a bath or shower, for best results.
How do I stop rubbing my arms during the day to feel my softness? People are starting to think that I’m a weirdo. That, my dear, sounds like a personal problem that I cannot help you with. Just tell people that you’ve had a sudden jolt in your self-esteem.
Now that you know what to do and why you need to do, get to it. You’re welcome.
