I’m a big fan of light fragrances. I know there are a lot of women out there who like to be completely enveloped by their favorite scent, but I prefer to just catch hints here and there. I like to think it adds a bit of mystery too, as passers-by get little whiffs and find themselves inexplicably drawn to you. Okay, maybe that’s a little perfume commercial-ish, but I think you get the idea. I guess that is why I especially love spring fragrances.
There are always exceptions to the rule, but usually scents at this time of year tend to be wispy and bright. If, like me, you are anxiously awaiting the new crop of spring fragrances, hoping that your signature scent may be among them then here is a sneak peak at what the next couple months have in store.
I know that for a lot of women, floral notes are synonymous with warmer temperatures. For all the blossom devotees there are several prospects on the horizon. Givenchy is launching Very Irresistible Givenchy Electric Rose, which sounds like it will be a good fit for those who like their florals with a bit of an edge. While the main element is obviously rose, there are several vivid, fresh notes (like basil and lemon) in the mix too. Gucci also has a range of new flowery offerings with their Flora By Gucci Garden Collection, including: Gracious Tuberose, Glamorous Magnolia, Gorgeous Gardenia, Generous Violet and Glorious Mandarin, each with a unique mix of floral, sweet and warm notes. What more could a girly-girl ask for?
Luscious and Ripe
In my opinion, fruity notes are the way to go for light fragrances. They are just so ripe and juicy smelling, making them innocent and sexy at the same time – seems like an irresistible combination to me. If you fall into the fruit-loving category then the new trio by Agent Provocateur is sure to appeal (no pun intended – really!). Each has its own blend of fruity notes, along with a mix of florals or gourmand/spicy scents. Get ready to beat them off with a stick!
For those who like to take their fragrance cues from nature, but enjoy something a little earthier smelling than flowers or fruit, Eau de Cartier Essence de Bois may do the trick. In this blend, woody notes are set-off by sensual and fresh scents. If you prefer a more aquatic scent then L’Eau Froide by Serge Lutens could be the one for you. Mixing water, spice and earth aspects, this fragrance is likely to appeal to both women and men. Getting back to basics seems pretty appealing right about now.
Sparkling and Bright
Brides-to-be (or those who just like to celebrate) may want to get their hands on a bottle of Aura by Swarovski Collection Mariage. With a mixture of lychee, tea and floral notes, this scent is said to be reminiscent of champagne fizz. Sounds like a bubbly good time!
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as new fragrances are concerned, but it should give you at least a hint of what is to come. I definitely can’t wait to get out there and start sniffing. I’m sure that one of these days I am going to find my perfect scent …or at least the perfect one for the season. Until then I will settle for a range of almost-there ones. Besides, the hunt for the ultimate fragrance is nearly as much fun as actually finding it.
