The painless eye lift you can enjoy now

If gravity is weighing down your skin these days, it might be tempting to look into cosmetic surgery. This is especially true when the reflection in your mirror shows heavy and tired eyes. But if you have reservations about going under the knife, there are plenty of ways to give your eyes a boost that will make your whole face seem younger and more alert.

Framing with fringes. While the skin around your eyes is a key player in their overall look, you can play up the features of your eyes that don't change much with aging – the brows and lashes. Celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman shared with Good Housekeeping Magazine that full eyebrows are key to a youthful look.

Even if your brows are not naturally full or defined, pencil can go a long way. Use a color that is one shade lighter than your brow color. Fill in sparse areas and set them with a clear brow gel or wax. Keep your lashes luscious, too. Dark, thick lashes give your eyes a visual lift. Keep your fringe full by using an eyelash curler then applying black mascara to the top lashes and brown to the bottom. Using a lighter color on the lower lashes adds the definition you need to open up your eyes without dragging them down.

The magic of makeup. Makeup's main purpose is to highlight certain areas while downplaying your less than stellar features. To make your eyes pop, dab a warm champagne eyeshadow or highlighter under the arch of your eyebrow and smudge outward, which will reflect light and attract attention to the highest part of your eye.

You can also use eyeshadow to correct any skin that is drooping on your eyelid. Contouring can make eyes look wider and more youthful. Apply light colored eyeshadow near the lash line and a deeper shade above your crease.

"The lighter shade makes the bottom of the lid more visible, while the darker shade makes the puffy top part recede," N.Y.C. makeup artist Paula Dorf told InStyle Magazine.

Prevent the puff. While disguising puffiness helps, you will also want to prevent this common phenomenon altogether. If your eyes are puffy in the morning, try icing them or using a product like Instant Lift Pads, which contain an antioxidant blend to soothe and calm the skin. If you’re icing, make sure to wrap the ice pack or bag of frozen veggies in a towel before applying or soak a washcloth in cool chamomile tea. Making sure you stay hydrated also helps relieve fluid retention around the eyes.

While there is nothing wrong with opting for a surgical fix to this common issue, you might find that you can enjoy the benefits of an eye lift even faster when you use these tips at home.
