There are some skincare tips that almost everyone knows. For example, you should wear sunscreen when you go outside and should moisturize after each washing to prevent wrinkles.
However, there are some aspects of your lifestyle that may be aging your skin unbeknownst to you. Here are some easy changes to reveal better skin.
Drink green tea. If your skin is blotchy or you have rosacea, drinking green tea can be a good way to soothe it. Green tea has anti-inflammatory properties and contains a chemical that may prevent the collagen destruction that leads to wrinkles.
De-stress and sleep plenty. Stress affects all of your organs, skin included. When you are stressed out, your body often produces more cortisol, a hormone that can make skin more oily and decrease its ability to fight off acne-causing bacteria. How to de-stress? You could start by sleeping more. According to a study in the journal Sleep, the risk of psychological stress increases 14 percent for every hour of sleep you lose per night.
Know your water. Is your water soft or hard? Soft water is not as effective as hard water at removing soap, so there may be a residue on your skin after washing. This means you can use less face or body wash if your water is soft. Hard water doesn't allow soap to lather well, but using more product can dry out your skin. Instead, opt for a non-lathering wash.
Keep your air clean. Bad air quality can damage your skin just as much as it can damage your lungs. Being around smoke can release free radicals that damage skin and make you age faster. Make sure the air in your home is clean, too. Change your furnace filter regularly and always use the fan on your stove when cooking with oil.
There are plenty of other lifestyle changes you can make that will improve your overall health and give your skin a boost, such as drinking more water, exercising more and cutting back on sugar. Live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy the radiant benefits on your skin!
