Your leak-proof beach bag essentials

If you’re a makeup junkie like I am, you probably carry several cosmetic products on you pretty much at all times. In my purse I usually have lip gloss (several colors), concealer, eye liner and powder or blotting papers – and that’s when I’m going casual. It’s handy to have your basics at hand when you want a touch up, but nothing is worse than reaching into your bag only to find that one of your products has leaked.

Now that summer’s here you’ll probably want to toss a few products into your beach bag to maintain your ‘natural’ beauty while basking in the sunshine. So which items will keep you looking fresh and also keep the inside of your bag clean? Here are a few great choices:

Stick Foundation:

If you have the need to bring foundation along then opt for a stick formula. In a pinch, you can even use it as a concealer to touch up blemishes and under eye circles. Prescriptives Multi Purpose Makeup Stick has a nice light feel and has SPF 15. Even better, you can get it in a dual pack so you can keep one tube at home and toss one in your bag.

Cream Blush Stick:

You guessed it – another stick formula. You can’t beat the portability of these kinds of products. Plus, creamy blush formulas like this give a natural looking flush that is perfect for the beach. New York Color’s Blushable Cream Stick is inexpensive and flattering.

Long Wearing Tube Eye Shadow:

I don’t personally like to wear eye shadow to the beach, but I’m sure there are some people who do. If you are one of them then try a long wearing product like Clinique Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8-Hour Eye Color. It comes in a lip gloss type tube, so there won’t be any crumbly powder in your bag. It’s also cooling and crease-resistant, so it should work well for a day in the hot sun.

Moisturizing Tinted Lip Balm with SPF:

Lip balm is easy to pack and typically stays closed when it’s rattling around in the bottom of your bag. If you get a moisturizing one with SPF and some color, you’ll be protecting and perfecting your pout at the same time. Try Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm.

Clear Mascara:

To keep your lashes defined and natural looking, take along a clear mascara (like Maybelline Great Lash in Clear) – and no raccoon eyes if you’re in the water. The bonus is that it can be used to hold your brows in place too. Also, if this somehow leaks in your bag, you won’t have a big dark mess.
