Celebrity hairstylist Daven Mayeda (he’s worked with Adele, Nikki Minaj and Mariah Carey just to name a few) is the go-to guy for taming Michelle Phan’s tresses and a pro panelist on her FAWN, the For All Women Network beauty channel. He’s also (surprise) a trained makeup artist as he points out on his summer day to night makeup tutorial on YouTube. His quick tutorial video shows you a simple look you can accomplish in under 10 minutes, and some simple tricks for making your look night-worthy in a snap.
You can use any brand you like so long as you stick to the color scheme, but Mayeda recommends products from Shu Uemura in his how-to video. By the way, if you’re in doubt about how to pronounce this luxury brand, that makes two of us! Thanks Daven. Repeat after me: Shoe Ooh More-Uh. Moving along…
Clean and moisturize your face as normal and follow with a light-reflecting base such as Illuminating Fluid Foundation.
Frame your face by defining and darkening your eyebrows. He uses Brow Manicure, a tinted gel in a mascara type dispenser that comes in brown and blonde shades. For best results, apply it sparingly with the brush wand. Don’t overdo it! Layer the gel on as needed for more color as you guide your brows in the direction you want them to stay put.
You’ll get a glowing goddess look by going lighter on the eyes. Use a flat eyeshadow brush to pat a neutral taupe color into the crease of your lid. The magic in this look comes from a highlighting trick you can achieve using just one eyeshadow color and two brushes!
Mayeda suggests using a shimmery color slightly lighter than your natural skin tone. If your skin tone is on the fairer side, opt for light champagne. A medium tone bronze is an ideal shade for darker complexions.
Using the same flat eyeshadow brush, apply the shimmery shadow to your eyelid and brow bone. Use a fluffy powder brush to apply the same color as a highlighter on your cheeks to achieve an ethereal effect.
Use an eyelash curler to give your eyes a bright, open appearance and apply a couple of coats of black mascara. His pick in the tutorial was Ultimate Natural Mascara.
With the same powder brush you highlighted with, apply the blush for a soft, subtle look. A soft pink is perfect, and Glow-On Blush was his pick.
Finish your day look with a natural-colored lip. Maydea uses Rouge Unlimited Lipstick, but you can get a away with the tinted gloss of your preference.
Adding impact with your hairstyle and a pop of color are two key elements to take your face from day to night. Mayeda says you should match the colors of your lipstick and blush in a punchy pink-peach hue and pair it with an updo like a messy bun.
You can up the drama by adding false lashes, winged-out liquid liner and a couple more coats of mascara.
