Desert Island Beauty

So let’s say you’re stranded on a desert island and you want to look good (because there are a lot of mirrors on this island, you’re stranded with someone really attractive, and/or you’re going to live stream all of your island activities to all your social media channels)…what three beauty items do you bring?

(Oh and for the sake of this conversation, SPF doesn’t count. As far as I’m concerned, SPF is as necessary for survival on a desert island as food and water. Add that to your list of things to find when you get stranded.)

(Also, I’m not really interested in the beauty items doubling as survival tools in some way. This isn’t about reality…this is about me wondering what your most important, can’t-live-without beauty items are. So…actually, just forget the island. If the airport lost your luggage and you could only buy three items to last you your entire vacation, which three would you buy?)   Here are mine!

1. Tweezers. My eyebrows have the biggest impact on how I look/how I think I look, so if I can’t do much, I’m going to want to at least tweeze my brows. When my eyebrows are well-groomed, I feel like I can wear less makeup, so I’m hoping this will be a good choice. And I know it’s not about survival tactics, but if it were…this would be a really good choice.

2. Mascara. I have a theory that women who wear makeup are either mascara women or eyeliner women. I am a mascara woman. It’s the one thing I really want to put on before I leave the house because I feel like it makes my eyes look defined, which then makes me look alive in a way that no other single type of makeup does. Yeah…my Maybelline Great Lash is definitely coming with me.

3. Lipstick/lipstain/lip gloss. This was a tough decision. Like, do I deal with my yucky undereye circles or my rather pale lips? Come to think of it, without makeup, both are kind of a sickly shade of gray. I thought about it and considered when I’m most likely to recoil from an accidental glance at my reflection and…I’m going to go with lips. Not because I like my undereye circles, but because I think that with good brows, mascara, and all the sleep I’ll be getting on the island will help with that. But nothing can make up for my pale lips, so I’m going to have to have some kind of lip color handy, especially when I consider that they’ll look even paler when I start getting all that island sun.

What three beauty items would you want with you on a deserted island? (Or whatever.)
