When you’re pressed for time and money, heading to the salon for a facial is probably the last thing on your to-do list. But just because you can’t go to a professional doesn’t mean you can’t achieve smooth, glowing skin on your own.
Here are three steps to achieving that “oh-I-just-had-a-facial” look in your own bathroom for a fraction of the cost.
1. Get your scrub on.
Baby-smooth skin requires a bit of a buff. Combine 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of olive oil with a packet of prepared plain oatmeal. Using your fingers, apply the paste to clean skin and massage in small circles over your face, avoiding the sensitive eye area. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
2. Get a little steamy.
An esthetician uses steam (usually from a professional grade machine) to open your pores and prepare them for masks and moisturizers. You can mimic the effect of the pros by soaking a washcloth in very warm (but not scalding!) water, wringing it out, and applying to your face. Repeat two to three times for maximum results.
3. Mask it up.
Your skin type will determine which type of mask is best for you. For oily skin, try a clay mask, but for dry skin, a cream or hydrating mask is better. Smooth whichever mask is better for you over your skin and rinse after 5-10 minutes. Follow with a few dabs of your favorite moisturizer, and get ready to hear how great your skin looks.
