5 ways to prep your skin for the holidays

Fresh, gorgeous glowing skin is what we all wish for during the holiday season. After all, between Secret Santa gift exchanges, company parties and holiday soirées, there’s plenty of places to make an appearance at this time of year. But it’s also when your skin may be at its worst: between the stress of shopping for presents, dry winter weather and (maybe) a little over indulgence in drinks and treats, your skin may not be what you want it to be. Get your face in tip top shape with these 5 ways to prep your skin for the holidays.

Exfoliate Weekly

If you aren’t already doing so take note: you should absolutely be exfoliating your skin on a weekly basis. A good exfoliation relieves the skin of dead, dry cells which is often the culprit behind a dull complexion and winter skin woes. Not sure what to try? Check out this  guide on the best at-home exfoliators.

Get a Facial

When it comes to prepping your skin for special occasion, it’s always best to see a professional. A deep-cleansing facial will help you get that glowing skin. Your aesthetician will also be able to specifically address any skin concerns your may have as well as perform extractions to help unclog your pores. You may even want to consider something like a quick microdermabrasion treatment which will exfoliate your skin even deeper and leave you with a more youthful appearance.

Always, always use a night cream before going to bed. Hydrating your skin is crucial to keeping it looking supple and night creams tend to be packed with more moisturizing properties than their daytime counterparts. Not sure what to get?  Check out some of the best drugstore moisturizers.

Even in the winter months, you should be using SPF daily! Many people forget or tend to think that cloudy days mean they’re less at risk for sun damage, but you should absolutely be using an SPF 15 or higher with both UVA and UVB protection daily. If you aren’t a fan of most sunblocks, try a moisturizer/sunblock combo. There are many great drugstore beauty buys that sell moisturizers with built-in sun protection properties. Neutrogena Age Defense Anti-Oxidant Daily Moisturizer SPF 20 is one of our favorites for its non-greasy formula and sheer finish.
