As a mom of two small kids I can tell you that my makeup routine is not what it used to be. I used to spend tons of time getting ready – experimenting and perfecting to my heart’s content, but that all changed the day I brought my first child home from the hospital. Since then, the beauty routine has been abbreviated, to say the least.
Would I like to spend 20 minutes in the mirror trying stuff out and playing around? Absolutely! However, those days are pretty much over for me, at least until the kids get bigger. It seem like ever since I had my oldest child I have been on the go, but up until recently I still managed to squeeze in a basic makeup routine.
In the last couple of weeks my oldest child started kindergarten and I now have even more to take care of in the morning. This has left me with next to no time for beauty before I rush out the door (don’t worry; I add stuff over the course of the day). I have been dreading the first day of school for months and the main reason, I’m kind of embarrassed to say, was because I had no idea how I would get out of the house looking at least semi-decent. Seriously, being a beauty junkie is so exhausting sometimes! Anyways, this is what I’ve been doing so far.
Moisturize and protect: After cleansing I apply my moisturizer with SPF. I’m currently using Aveeno Positively Ageless Youth Perfecting Moisturizer with SPF 30. This step gives me some sun protection, moisturizes my skin (without adding oil) and creates a nice base for my other products.
Conceal: Next, I grab my concealer and start hiding my under-eye circles and any blemishes.
A touch of flush: Without blush I look like I’m near death, so I dab on a little cheek stain or blush stick to give myself a healthy glow.
Even it out: To bring it all together, I swirl on a layer or two of mineral foundation. Right now I’m using Everyday Minerals Semi-Matte.
Define the eyes: Once my skin is done, I move on to the eyes. I line my top and bottom lash line in a neutral color and then give my lashes a coat or two of mascara. I love Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner Pencil. It has a soft tip that doesn’t irritate.
Top it off: To finish things off, on my way out the door I slick on some moisturizing gloss (usually Clinique Superbalm in Grapefruit or Mango) and I’m gone.
