January is a magical time of the year. The lights start sparkling, snow begins to fall, the holidays are over and people are still married to their New Year’s resolutions. However, the winter months can wreak havoc on your skin. Suddenly your face becomes an itchy, dry mess and you don’t have the right moisturizer. Your makeup is flaking off and you don’t know what to do. Stock up on winter skincare essentials to keep on hand so you’re never caught off guard by Jack Frost again.
Buy a heavy-duty moisturizer. Try one that is more oil-based instead of water-based, but make sure it says it is “non-clogging” or you may start breaking out. Use it in the morning and at night. One of my favorites is Lush’s Skin Drink.
Don’t forget the sunscreen! Just because it is winter and you may not see the sun as often, it doesn’t mean the sun’s rays can’t hurt you. It is best if you find a moisturizer with sunscreen already in it, but if it doesn’t, don’t forget to put some on whenever you head outdoors.
Try a humidifier. Our homes can become very dry at this time of year causing our skin to dry out as well. Using a humidifier in your home can help bring more moisture in the air, which will help to keep your skin glowing.
Drink, drink, drink! Water that is! Water does wonders for the skin and if you drink enough, it will help ease your dry skin woes. Look for calculators online that help you determine how much water you should drink based on your weight, how much you exercise, etc.
Avoid superhot showers and baths. Sure, it may feel great when the weather is frigid outside, but the nasty effect it has on your skin is not worth it.
