I love fragrance, but I’m certainly not an avid wearer of perfume nor do I have a wide range of favorites. I‘m actually very, very picky about my scents and kind of wear the chosen few whenever the mood strikes. Sometimes I’ll put some on to perk me up on a bad day. Other times I’ll add a little dab in anticipation of a good day. Sometimes I just really want to smell a favorite scent, but I’m definitely very selective about what I like.
I guess I’m not alone in my perfume pickiness. I think that most women are attracted to a certain ‘family’ of scents and generally stick with fragrances that fall into that grouping, but does your personality dictate the scents you find most appealing? I’m not sure, but I think it’s certainly influenced by the things you love.
As a self-professed dessert addict, my fragrance preferences reflect my love of all things sweet and decadent. Give me anything that smells like vanilla, caramel, coconut, chocolate and fruit and I’ll rub it all over me (don’t worry; I’m still talking about perfume here). Baking and eating sweets has always been relaxing to me, so I guess that’s why I find these scents so alluring. I realize that these fragrances are not generally considered overly sophisticated, but I don’t care. They make me feel happy and, I think, evoke a certain sex appeal too.
I usually think of women who love floral scents as being ultra-feminine. Even though I consider myself a girly-girl, I’m not one to don a frilly dress or slip into a pair of delicate kitten heels (I’d much rather rock a pair of great-butt jeans and a figure hugging blouse). I see floral fragrance enthusiasts as being very graceful and elegant. They would never be called a tomboy or leave the house in a pair of sweats. In my mind they are lovers of all things beautiful, in nature and the world in general
Spicy perfume wearers are, in my opinion, exotic and mysterious. They love things that are a little unexpected, but not in a lighthearted, playful way – more in a sexy, secretive way. They give the best you-don’t-know-what-I’m-thinking-but-I-bet-you-want-to looks. Bold and expressive, they definitely wouldn’t be called shy, but they never leave all their cards on the table either.
Those who opt for clean scents are often sporty and fresh-faced. They aren’t interested in anything too fussy or complicated. They love the outdoors and natural beauty. These are the women who can throw their hair in a ponytail and slap on a little lip balm (and maybe a spritz of their favorite scent) and walk out the door looking perfect.
So what do you think? Do you fit into one of my gross generalizations or are you a fragrance rule breaker?
