Guys need to take care of their skin, too

It isn’t a surprise that most women take care of their skin better than men. Most “manly men” think anything but a bar of soap is “too girly” for them! They think they don’t need face wash or moisturizer or toner or any of the wonderful products they produce for healthy and happy skin. So whether you’re a dude looking to take better care of your skin and get rid of skin maladies or you want to convince your man to scrub up, here are some tips to help!

Stay away from the sun. Well, you don’t have to steer clear completely but take precaution when going outside! Men can get wrinkles and skin cancer too, but most of the sun care advice tends to be towards tanning ladies. Men should use at least SPF 30+ every time they head outside or plan to be in the sun for any amount of time. Yes, you still need SPF outside in the winter too! Lastly, be sure to choose a sunscreen that won’t budge if you’ll be sweating or in the water.

Skincare products aren’t just for women! Men can greatly benefit from the right skincare products. Choose a face wash, moisturizer, toner and exfoliator designed for men’s faces and whatever type of skin you deal with. Acne? Use a face wash with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Dry skin? Use a heavy duty moisturizer. There are plenty of “man brands” that won’t make you feel like you’re buying something girly. Try looking at Ulta or Bath & Body Works for lots of different skincare products designed specifically for men.

Learn to avoid ingrown hairs from shaving. If you’re a guy who shaves every day or even a few times a week, you are probably prone to those pesky ingrown hairs. A few tips: get your skin very wet before shaving or shave in the shower, apply shaving cream or gel and use a razor with one blade. Shave in the direction the hair wants to grow and you will cut down on ingrown hairs. Also, apply some aftershave to ensure smooth, sexy skin.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to pamper yourself! Facials are not just for girls! If you think your skin needs a little extra TLC, check out a facial or skincare treatment to treat acne, aging skin or whatever ails your skin.

So don’t be afraid to treat your skin with the love it deserves, guys!
