Make your hair date night chic

If you’re like me, there’s a certain routine to date night, whether it’s a fix-up with a guy you’ve never met or a standing Friday night appointment with a significant other that you’ve known for years.

You slip on that little black dress that makes you look a good five pounds thinner even if you’ve been hitting the chocolate a little too hard — and the skyscraper heels that give you to-die-for legs and then you sweep on your sexiest smoky eye shadow with the winged liner and glossy lips and you’re feeling pretty hot…

Until you realize that you have absolutely no clue what to do with your hair. For some reason, coming up with the perfect date night hair isn’t the no-brainer that choosing an outfit and lip color are.  If you’re like me and always find yourself caught at the last minute without the right hairstyle for a hot date, here are some killer ideas for go-to do’s that look great whether you’ve got a candlelight dinner or a night at the movies in your future.

High Glam Waves

What’s sexier than old school Hollywood waves?  It’s the perfect look for dinner at a swanky restaurant or an elegant party, and despite its serious glam factor, it doesn’t really require much work. Use a round brush and smoothing cream like Kiehl’s Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream to blow dry some volume and shine into your hair. Next, section off your hair and use your favorite curling iron to add waves throughout your tresses.  Opt for a 1 ½-inch or larger curling iron to keep the waves soft yet defined.  When your hair has cooled, use your fingers to gently separate the waves a bit.  You can use a flexible hold hairspray like Aveda Witch Hazel Light Hold Hair Spray to keep the waves in place all night, but don’t spray too much or it might feel a little crunchy when your guy tries to run his fingers through your hair.

Straight and Sleek

If you want a little edge to your look, skip the waves and go for a sleek straight ‘do. This style is even less complicated than waves, so it’s perfect when you’re in a hurry to get ready for your date.  Start by working a heat protectant product like Tresemme’s Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray through your hair, and use a round brush to smooth it out while you blow dry. But to get that really sleek, sexy look, follow up with a straightening iron to tame any frizz and make your hair super smooth. To make the look totally head-turning, finish off with a shine serum like Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smooth & Shine Serum to leave you with super shiny locks.

Flirty Twist

For a romantic, flirty look, you can’t top an up do – but you don’t have to go for a fussy, complicated style for your next date night. You’ll still look super sexy with a simple – and messy – twist. Uses a round brush to pump up the volume at your roots as you blow dry your hair. For the lower sections, use your fingers to separate your hair as you dry it to add some texture too. When your hair is dry, part it down the middle and comb it back like you’re going for a pony tail, but twist the end back against your head, using bobby pins to hold it in place. Don’t worry if pieces fall out as you secure it – it’ll look even sexier if it’s messy.  Pull some pieces loose near the front too so they frame your face.  You can even go in with a curling iron to give the strands near your face a soft wave for a particularly flirty look.
