Move around for mucho metabolism!

I remember a time during my childhood when I was pole-thin, munching on cookies, when my grandmother told me, “That’s going to catch up to you someday!” Nana wasn’t known for her tact at delivering such messages, but she was always right. The speedy metabolism we enjoy as children slows down as we age, making it easier to gain weight and harder to lose it for a healthy lifestyle.

But what if there was a way to magically boost my metabolism again? Fortunately, there is! Although it might seem magical once you start seeing results, there is no witchcraft or wizardry involved in these tricks. Just good old fashioned exercise – Nana would be proud!

Rev up your muscles and metabolism

The key to a long-lasting fast metabolism and high energy levels is strong muscles. Muscle burns as much as seven times more calories when you are resting as fat does, so having a firm physique is kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Plus, when you engage in high-intensity exercise, your metabolism is in overdrive, burning calories rapidly. What’s better is that your body enjoys a 25 percent higher metabolism for as long as 15 hours after this type of workout.

Do high-energy bursts of cardio like jumping rope, sprinting or quickly stepping on and off a step bench in 4-minute increments for about 15 to 20 minutes. Or, do a series of high-intensity jump-squats at the end of your workout for a lasting energy high.

Boost your back and core

Certain core exercises are extraordinarily good for boosting metabolism and keeping it high, because they tend to work more than one muscle group at a time. Since strength-training can up your metabolic rate, strengthening more than one muscle group at a time kicks it up yet another notch!

Try yoga poses like the locust pose, in which you lie on your stomach and lift your legs and chest, reaching backward with your arms. Or do bridge pose, which involves laying on your back with your knees bent, then lifting your hips so your body is in a straight line from knees to shoulders.

Other moves that require you to engage your core muscles will also help boost your metabolism by firming up those muscles – especially since we ladies tend to collect fat around our middles!

In addition to burning more fat, practicing a high-metabolism workout will help you sleep better, have more energy throughout the day and feel more toned all throughout your body. Rev up your engine, now!
