We all have those days when you just have to run. You might be training for a race or simply trying to clear your head, but when you aren’t in the mood, you may choose that running route that is of the less-hilly variety.
But, those hills have TONS of benefits. Sure, they are uncomfortable and all you want to do is slow down, but there is an UPside – your stride improves, your muscles become more toned and you get faster. Plus, if you are training for a race with hills, you will need to practice! Here are some tips to get you to the top!
– Learn good form. When you start going uphill, shorten your stride while keeping your feet low and try to keep your head and chest up and perpendicular to the group as best as possible.
– Easy does it. As you start running up that hill, try to keep the same pace. This way you won’t lose form or be too tired for the rest of your run.
– Keep it up! Yes, you did it! That really hilly run felt awesome, but don’t stop there! Keep hills on your regular runs and you will quickly see the results.
