I’m sensitive, and I’d like to stay that way

Are you sensitive? That is, is your body sensitive to fragrances, artificial flavors and allergens in general? If you have a lot of allergies, you probably already know about hypoallergenic makeup. However, even if you have never had an allergic breakout from cosmetics, you might want to learn a bit about this phenomenon.

Hypoallergenic makeup is usually labeled as such because it is made with ingredients that are gentler on the skin and less likely to cause allergic reactions. Sometimes, this can mean the ingredients are all-natural, but not always.

When shopping for hypoallergenic makeup, make sure the ingredients label does not include nanoparticles, parabens, fragrances, artificial colors or bismuth oxychloride, since these are all common skin irritants for sensitive skin. Parabens are chemicals used as preservatives in makeup, and while the jury is still out on their safety, they have been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer because they mimic the hormone estrogen.

Even if the product seems safe, test it on a patch of skin to be totally sure.
