You are what you eat – and so is your skin!

I know how important it is to eat healthy, and for the most part, I enjoy leading a healthy lifestyle, keeping the whole “you are what you eat” mantra in mind. While I’ve been worrying about my waistline, it turns out my skin is especially affected by what I eat!

If you are what you eat, your skin – being the outermost organ of your body – definitely will show it. Too little of this and too much of that can make a serious difference in the condition of your skin. Stock up on vitamins A, C, B and E to get the smoothest, youngest looking skin.

Vitamin A is one of the best fighters in the battle against signs of aging. It has been proven to reduce wrinkles, fade dark spots and smooth rough skin. Vitamin C comes in second, since it’s an antioxidant that fights free radicals that can trigger wrinkles and sagging in the skin.

B vitamins are important for your brain, but they’re crucial for your skin, too. In particular, vitamin B3 boosts hydration in your skin, making it better able to hold in moisture and keep out irritants, reducing redness. Vitamin B1 boosts circulation in your body, giving your skin a healthy glow. Vitamin E is known for its healing and hydrating properties, but it also is a super free-radical fighter, because it is actually able to neutralize then to protect your skin.
