You can find me making a grocery list while getting my hair done, filing my nails while reviewing some work documents or packing for a weekend away while cooking dinner. There are few times in my life when I am NOT multitasking, and my morning beauty routine is certainly not one of them.
Because I’m such a master multitasker, I kind of expect the things I use every day to be able to double-perform, too. This day in age, why would I waste my time with a cosmetic that can only do one thing for me? Choosing makeup that works double-duty is a great way to save time, money and space in your makeup bag! Here are some items you need.
One step to flawless skin
Moisturizer, sunscreen, primer, foundation, powder – who has the time for all these steps? Not me. Many of us wrinkle-phobes have embraced moisturizers with SPF in them to protect against the sun exposure we get daily, but you can shorten the steps to gorgeous skin even further by using BB cream instead of all of these!
BB cream is essentially all of the above products rolled into one product, meaning it moisturizes your skin, protects it from the sun, evens the skin tone and covers blemishes. Try Hydroxatone’s Anti-Aging BB Cream – it has the added bonus of ingredients that promote the skin’s regenerative properties to make you look younger!
If the coverage isn’t quite enough for you, it also makes a nice smooth surface for foundation application, but in a pinch you can probably get away with just wearing the cream! I have been known to walk out of my house entirely forgetting to do my makeup because my skin looks so good with BB cream on!
Anti-aging, all the time
There’s nothing like the night time to deliver anti-aging nourishment to your skin, but why stop once the sun comes up? If you choose makeup that has wrinkle-fighting ingredients like retinol, hyaluronic acid and peptides in it, you can cover up signs of aging while actually treating them and making your skin healthier. Look for a firming concealer with peptides to firm up your under-eye skin, or a foundation with retinol in it. Revlon makes a good Age Defying line of concealer and foundation.
Color me rouge – everywhere!
Who said lip stain is just for lips and cheek stain is just for cheeks? Blush and lip color can be considered multitasking MVPs of your makeup bag. Blended well enough, lipstick can serve as a type of cream blush, and cream blush can give lips color in a pinch.
There are also products that are designed for use in both places, which is a huge money, time and space saver. Whether you choose a liquid, cream or stick stain, usually the color that works on your lips will give your cheeks a perfectly natural flush, too. I like Benefit’s Benetint, a rose-tinted cheek and lip stain that is long-lasting and looks natural.
Making a multitasker out of your makeup
Even if your makeup was not made to multitask, you may be able to squeeze a few different uses out of it. Bronzer, for instance, is supposed to give your face a healthy glow, but in a pinch (or not such a pinch), it can make a great eyeshadow hue. Eyeshadow may be meant for your eyelids, but a touch of champagne or a peachy pink color can work as a highlighter, too. Just apply a dab of these hues to your brow bones, bridge of your nose and curve of your lip to get glowing.
