On my list of makeup obsessions lip gloss comes first, but is followed closely by mascara. On a day to day basis, I don’t wear a ton of eye makeup. My usual eye routine is just liner and mascara, but I absolutely must have a mascara that creates a dramatic look. Now, I’m not talking about clumpy or spidery lashes – very much the opposite actually. What I love is to create lashes that look like my dream natural lashes. I want long, thick, fanned out and separated lashed and I want them for a great price!
I know. I’m a little demanding. Luckily, there are some drugstore mascaras that really deliver and trust me; I’ve tried a lot of them. That’s not to say that I never use expensive mascara – I do from time to time, but my absolute favorite one is an inexpensive brand. Here are my current favorites, starting with my top choice:
This is the classic LashBlast and still my favorite. I have tried the others too (except the new 24 Hour), but always come back to this one. I’ve been using this stuff pretty much since it first came out and still think it’s the best, especially for the price. I’ll be the first to tell you I haven’t been faithful for the whole time (I’ve had a few meaningless flings with shiny new products), but LashBlast has my heart. I love the way the fat rubbery brush separates my lashes and doesn’t deliver little globs of mascara. I also love that it seems to give my lashes a perfectly fanned look while it’s lengthening and thickening, coating even the tiny lashes at the end. The chunky tube takes up a lot of room in my makeup bag, but it’s earned the extra space. The waterproof version is pretty good too, but I have another favorite for that.
This mascara’s been around for quite a long time and it’s been my go-to waterproof for about as long. The brush separates lashes and gives them some great length and curl. It really stays put when wet and, true to its name, feels soft to the touch. My favorite thing to do is to layer this on top of a coat of LashBlast and I’ve never had a problem with raccoon eyes from doing this. Of course, I haven’t tried it for swimming either. If I was going to be around a lot of water I’d use this one on its own, but if I’m worried about tears or a bit of rain then the layering trick works great.
While I can’t say that my lash growth has really been accelerated when I’ve used this, I can tell you that whenever I’ve tried this one for a while my lashes seem healthier is some way. Maybe it’s just my imagination or a little wishful thinking, but they seem softer and I don’t seem to fall out as often. For that reason it has earned a spot in my overflowing cosmetics bag.
