Protect yourself from the sun this summer

Of course you use all the best sunscreens on your face now, being careful to protect your skin from the sun with hats and shade of any kind. However, if you’re anything like me, you weren’t always so careful. As a result of your youthful ignorance about skincare, you may be starting to notice some dark spots on your face that weren’t there before – and they’re not beauty marks, either.

Dark spots, also known as age spots, are officially referred to as hyperpigmentation and are generally caused by sun exposure. They are usually not a sign of a serious medical condition, but always get them examined by a doc to rule out skin cancer. Although these spots can make you and your skin look older, there are some things you can do to brighten up.

Many skin-lightening products contained a chemical called hydroquinone in the past, but the FDA proposed a ban on this substance when it was linked to cancer in rodent studies. Play it safe with a brightening lotion that will fade the dark spots and discoloration with harmless ingredients plus antioxidants to fight off more signs of aging.
