5 Stellar drugstore moisturizers

When it comes to makeup and skincare, I’m always after the latest and greatest. Is there a new fancy-schmancy bottle promising to be the next Fountain of Youth? Yes, please! You mean this almost-extinct exotic extract is the true secret formula I’ve been needing all my life? Sign me up!

But the reality is, despite new innovations and possibly falling for marketing gimmicks here and there, you can find some pretty fabulous budget-friendly moisturizers right at your local drugstore. These bad boys do wonders for your skin, and are wallet-friendly, too.

Best Night Cream

I’m a firm believer in religiously using night cream and have been on a perpetual quest to find the absolute best, until I discovered Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream. Now, we never spend a night apart. The lavender-colored formula has a silky smooth finish and is surprisingly thick in consistency. Think: lilac whipped cream but with a heavenly soft finish. It also has a light but pleasant scent, something I’m particular about since you’ll be wearing the cream all night long. The formula is so smooth, you’ll look forward to applying it at night and look forward to softer, smoother, supple skin in the morning. Plus, it’s packed with an anti-aging complex, hydrates skin and smoothes fine lines and wrinkles.

Best Daytime Moisturizer for Oily/Combination Skin

When you’re skin is oily (or combination) it can be easy to consider skipping moisturizer altogether. But really, finding a good oil-free moisturizer that hydrates your skin without enhancing the shine is what’s key. That’s why Clean & Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer is one of my favorites. It’s unbelievably light and helps prevent and treat breakouts, too. Even if you aren’t needing to treat acne, the moisturizer is light, scent-free and great for combo and oily skin.

Best Moisturizer SPF Combo

The search for a non-greasy non-smelly moisturizer-sunblock combo is like trying to find discount Christian Louboutins that aren’t knockoffs—good luck! But the Neutrogena Age Defense Anti-Oxidant Daily Moisturizer SPF 20 is definitely a formula to try. The moisturizer is not thick, non-greasy and not sticky either. It has broadband UVA/UVB protection and antioxidants too, to help combat the environmental signs of aging.

Best Moisturizer for Dry Skin

When my skin is super dry and in need of a serious moisture surge, Garnier Nutriesse Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream does the job. Surprisingly enough, for packing tons of moisture, the gel is incredibly lightweight. And the fact that it’s cool to the touch makes it quite refreshing, too. If you’re a fan of Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, you’ll find the Garnier Nutrisse Moisture Rescue is a great budget-friendly alternative with quite the similar feel.

Best Moisturizer for Mature Skin

Injectibles aside, the best over-the-counter anti-aging remedy to fight wrinkles is still with products using retinol, which is why you can’t go wrong with a tube of Roc Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Moisturizer. Although a bit thick in consistency, the moisturizer comes packed with retinol to treat and ward off wrinkles and SPF 30, too. It’s an oil-free formula, hypoallergenic and many users report seeing visible results after just 12 weeks of use. If you would rather treat your wrinkles at night, the ROC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is also a good bet. If you have sensitive skin or have never used retinol products before, start by using the cream only every other night. Always follow up with a great sunblock during the day since retinol products do make the skin super sensitive.
