Your holiday party makeup go-to guide

So you’re receiving invitations left and right to attend holiday dinner parties, cocktail hours and other holiday festivities. Lucky you! This time of year is one of the most festive, with ample opportunities to get together with friends and loved ones to celebrate. Of course, it’s also a time to show off your fashion and beauty know-how in a way that is perfectly seasonal.

It might be overwhelming to think of a new look for every occasion you are invited to, but here are some of the makeup looks you might want to make your go-tos for the holiday season. Remember, ’tis the season to have fun with your makeup!

Silver and gold

You know that song from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”? Well, these metallics are everywhere during the holiday season – from the garlands on the Christmas tree to the champagne in your hand. That’s what makes them perfectly festive on your eyes.

Try rimming your eyes with a silver eyeliner pencil and adding a touch of shimmery or sparkling silver eyeshadow. Silver is also a great way to make an otherwise dark gray smokey eye extra dressy.

Gold is the ever-flattering, always-festive shadow that you can wear with almost anything. It will give your face a lovely golden glow, but always remember that silver and gold should not be worn together on your eyes. Silver is cool and gold is warm, so pick just one and stick with it this holiday season.

Big, red lips

Of course, nothing says “holiday” like a bright berry red, which is why this color is perfect for statement lips this season! Whether you are headed to your office holiday party or over to your inlaws’ for dinner, red lips are an effortless way to jazz up your look. Keep a tube of red in your purse for a last-minute primping session in the bathroom after work when you’re headed to a festive cocktail hour.

Choose a creamy matte lipstick or a lip stain to get your lips primed for a holiday cocktail party or other night out. A shimmery red could also work for the holidays, just make sure you keep your eye makeup matte and on the neutral side.

Naked nails are a no-no!

Other than eyes and lips, nails are one place you can try out fun looks this holiday season. There are few things less festive than naked nails, though, so make a manicure a priority before some of your bigger parties. A sparkly red or gold would look stunning with almost all outfits, but forest green is also trendy and seasonal.
