Healthy ways to spend your Valentine’s Day

I’ve never been one of those people who rolls their eyes at Valentine’s Day. I think it’s a sweet and fun day to remind the people you care about that you love them. Sure, it’s a Hallmark holiday, but isn’t every holiday at this point? Anyway, it can be hard to come up with ideas to celebrate the day with those you love. It can be even harder if your sweetie is someone who isn’t into the traditional chocolates and candy. Maybe they’re one of the lucky few who’ve stuck to their resolution to be healthier in the New Year.

Well, good news! Your Beauty Advisor is here to help you out with a few healthy ways to spend Valentine’s Day.

Ice Skating – We’re living in the age of the polar vortex so why not take advantage of the cold temperatures and head out to your local skating pond? Not only is ice skating a fun workout, but you can hold hands and stare lovingly into each other’s eyes (gross).

Run A Race – Sign up for a local Valentine’s themed 5k and kiss at that the finish line (okay, that’s the last lame tie-in I’m going to make here).

Go Kayaking – If you live in a state that hasn’t been affected by the polar vortex, head out in a kayak together. Enjoy a picnic afterwards to make it a complete date.

Have A Gym Date – Create a couples workout to do together or take each other’s favorite class. Is your guy/girl into yoga and you’ve always wanted to try? Valentine’s Day is the perfect chance to do it together.

If you’re not feeling active, but still want to keep it healthy, I have ideas for you as well.

Make Your Own Sushi – Surprise your significant other (or a friend) with a sushi-making class. You’ll not only create a healthy meal, but a new memory.

Get Massages – Treat yourself and the one you love with a massage. Massages are known to relieve stress and muscle pain so unwind and relax together with a couples massage.

Brunch – Enjoy a healthy brunch! Decorate the table with a Valentine themed table setting and cook up some healthy oatmeal or omelets. Oh, don’t worry, I didn’t forget the mimosa. Try this heart-healthy pomegranate recipe to keep with the Valentine theme.

Whether you’re coupled up or single, you can do these activities with anyone you love. Remember, Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples!
