Great green and healthy makeup tips

There are so many beauty hacks out there. Sometimes you just have to do your research to get to the best ones for you.  If you’re committed to living a healthy, green and sustainable lifestyle that research may be a bit more difficult.  Here are that are easy green makeup tips to incorporate in your daily life.

Try out rosewater. It is relatively inexpensive and it has various uses. Your skin gets dehydrated during the day as you drink coffee or alcohol in the evening or simply are exposed to the weather. If you mist rosewater over your makeup during the day, it will hydrate, plump and refresh your skin. You can also use it as a toner after your normal cleansing routine.

At least once a week, exfoliate your pucker with a homemade lip scrub. We scrub many areas of our body, but we often forget about our lips! Our lips need a good scrub too, especially if you wear lipstick often. Simply use a soft toothbrush (not the one you use to brush regularly though) and some coconut oil and finish with a natural salve.

Look for green products that have more than one use to save time and money. You can often find a foundation that is both a concealer and a highlighter. This will help even your skin tone, get rid of dark circles and lines and brighten your face.

If you use anti-shine products throughout the day, make sure you’re reading the ingredients. Most of these contain aluminum, which is harmful. Look for more natural products or blotting papers to reduce your shine and your exposure to chemicals.

Lastly, remember you don’t need to break the bank and switch all of your products and your daily routine all at once. Keep using your products until they run out and then look for an easier and greener alternative to try. Check out the Environmental Working Group’s database of cosmetic and skin care products. You can simply search for a brand or product and learn what chemicals are in them and how safe they are for you and the environment. This is especially helpful if you have sensitive skin or allergies. To visit their website and start searching for products, click here.
