Get Rid of a Cold Sore Fast

Get-Rid-of-a-Cold-Sore-Fast

Cold sores are the worst and can make you feel really self-conscious. If you don’t treat it, it will heal in a few days, but chances are you want to get rid of that bump as fast as possible. First you will need to dry it out before you can cover it up with makeup. Here are some natural cures for getting rid of cold sores fast.

Honey

Raw, unprocessed honey is a great natural antiseptic and antibacterial treatment and can work even better than cold sore medications, studies show. Apply honey several times a day to help treat it and make it go away.

Non-Medicated Patch

To keep your cold sore dry, cover it with a non-medicated patch that you can find at drugstores. It helps let air in to dry it out, but keeps extra moisture and contaminants away. It also simply covers it up and makes it easier to hide.

Eat This

Increase the amount of high-lysine foods in your diet. Lysine is an amino acid. It is made up of proteins that actually help the body heal itself. Look for lysine in foods such as milk, lamb, oat flakes and mung bean sprouts. This can also help you prevent future cold sores. Upping your intake of vitamin B6 can also help.

Not That

If you have a cold sore, you’ll want to avoid foods high in arginine. Arginine is also an amino acid, but unlike lysine, arginine is a building block for the herpes virus and helps cold sores spread. So avoid chocolate, nuts, garlic, ginseng and peas for the time being. Also steer clear of acidic foods that can make cold sores worse, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes and vinegar.

Calm the Sore with Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is very calming and it will help heal a cold sore to drink it and applying it directly on the cold sore. Use a chamomile tincture if you apply. Bisabolol, found in chamomile, helps heal sores.

If your cold sore sticks around for more than a few days, ask your doctor for a medication that heals it more quickly or visit the drugstore for a medication if these natural cures aren’t working for your body.
