Add Body to Your Limp, Fine Hair

If you have fine, limp hair, you might be frustrated because it can be very difficult to style and keep styled all day. Curls fall out quickly and all the work you did was for nothing. But have no fear! There are some secrets to adding body to your fine hair.

Get a Haircut

If your hair is fine, the longer it is, the more weighed down it will be. If you want more body, aim for shoulder-length cuts or bobs. Ask for layers to add even more body. Just make sure the longest layer hits at least to your eyes to avoid a dated looking cut.

Use the Best Shampoo for You

Look for shampoos specifically designed for thin hair to give body and volume. Avoid creamy shampoos that are made for thick hair.

Rinse With Apple Cider Vinegar

If you use hair products regularly, you might have a lot of build-up in your scalp. It weighs down your thin hair that already lacks body. To get rid of this product build-up, use an apple cider vinegar rinse twice a month. It will get rid of residue, add body and fight dandruff if you suffer from it.

Use Mousse and Dry Shampoo

Use a golf ball sized amount, depending on your hair length and work it through your hair from roots to mid-shaft. It will plump up your hair and today’s formulations will still leave your hair soft.

They now sell dry shampoos that add volume to your hair, allowing you to skip a few shampoos and increase your hair’s volume at the same time.

Create Waves with a Salt Spray

If you have a natural wave in your hair, use salt spray on damp hair. Then scrunch your hair and let air dry for a gorgeous natural look.

Let Hair Air Dry

Skip the hair dryer to avoid letting volume slip through your fingers. Add a volumizing spray then finger comb and let air dry for best possible results.

However, if you must blow dry your hair, star by towel drying. Then bend over at the waist and blow dry your hair upside down to add lift to the roots. You can also use a diffuser to help point the hot air in a specific direction.

Use Hairspray Wisely

After you blow dry your hair, to lift fine hair easily, simply use hairspray along the crown and massage the spray into your roots at the crown.

How to Apply Product Correctly

If you want more volume, you need volumizing products. Always start with damp hair. It doesn’t matter if you are using a spray or a mousse; you need to apply it to damp hair. Start at the roots and massage the product, working it down to the ends. You don’t need product at the very ends because it can weigh down your hair and actually dry it out.

Learn How to Use Rollers

A great product to get volume and body is to use Velcro rollers. They are generally pretty inexpensive and easy to learn to use. If you are unsure how to use them in the right way, look online for tutorials or ask your hairstylist to show you how.
