Skin Care Before a Big Event

There’s a big event in your future. Depending on your age, it could be prom or another school dance, a wedding (yours or someone else’s), a big work event or dinner, or even running into your ex. You just want to look the best you can look! So that means your skin has to be on point. Here are some easy steps on putting your best face forward:

1. Cleanse your face twice a day. This means in the morning and at night before bed. Never sleep with your makeup on as this will clog your pores and can cause acne. Don’t wash your face more than twice a day though or else your skin will overproduce oil and can either make you break out or make your face too dry.

2. Use toner after you cleanse, especially if you have acne. This will ensure all the makeup is off your face and out of your pores after you cleanse. Be sure to buy an alcohol free version or it may be too drying for your skin.

3. Moisturize! Especially in winter months when your skin may be drier than usual. Use moisturizer twice a day after your cleanse your face. If you’re looking to multi-task in the morning, use a moisturizer with SPF and/or a tint.

4. Exfoliate gently once a week. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells that can clog your pores. So removing the gunk in your pores will make your face bright and clear. Don’t exfoliate too often, however, or you can dry out or irritate your skin.

5. Use a relaxing mask once a week. Depending on your skin’s condition and type, find a mask that will work wonders for you. You can even make one yourself with items in your kitchen and pantry. There are also many types you can buy that will help heal acne, tame dry skin and much more.

6. Treat your eyes. Use an eye cream every night, no matter how old or young you are. The skin around your eyes is very sensitive and using eye cream is a great preventive measure to fight against aging, dry skin and wrinkles.

7. Lastly, remember the two things your skin really needs: water and sunscreen! Drinking a lot of water can greatly improve your skin. It will keep your skin hydrated and healthy and can even clear up pimples. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Also, use sunscreen every day, no matter what the weather or your skin color. Sun damage is the worst offender to creating bad skin and can age you much faster. Use at least an SPF 15 every day.
