The 4 Benefits of a Sugar Detox

Now is the time to start detoxing and get rid of some excess weight, complexion issues and just plain feel better. A sugar detox is a great way to cleanse yourself. Here are some benefits of doing a sugar detox:

1. Weight loss. If you’re looking to lose a few pounds, you need to ditch the sugary treats. Some people might think that you need to stop eating fat to lose weight, but sugar is often the culprit of weight gain. Healthy fats are actually good for you. Sugar turns into fat in your body and is basically empty calories.

2. More energy. Eating too much sugar can lead to some crazy energy highs and lows. When you eat better, you feel better and your energy is more stable throughout the day. You might find you need less caffeine to get through the day and feel better on less sleep.

3. Better skin. If you regularly have acne or another skin condition, eating too much sugar can actually cause this. When you eat sugar, your insulin levels spike and this causes inflammation in the body. Inflammation causes collagen and elastin to break down and can exacerbate skin issues such as acne or rosacea.

4. Better digestion. If you have some tummy troubles often, eating too much junk food could be the cause. Eating too much sugar can lead to gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea.

Before you start a sugar detox, remember that you may have withdrawal symptoms at first. Don’t let it discourage you and power through them. After a while you will feel better, but at first you may get headaches, nausea, mood changes, fatigue, insomnia, or anxiety. It depends on how hooked on sugar you are, your personality and body, what symptoms you may develop.
