Stressed? 7 Scientific Ways To Beat It

We all get stressed and we all have ways of dealing with it, whether they are healthy or not. Sometimes the escape of stress in turning to a drink or a cigarette can hurt us more in the long run and only cover up the stress instead of effectively getting rid of it. Whatever you’re dealing with, here are some scientifically-proven, healthy ways to beat stress now.

1. Meditation. Meditation helps you control your breathing, stay in the present moment and let go of things that are bothering you. It also helps to say positive affirmations while you meditate and breathe deeply. It can help you calm down quickly and focus on what you need to do to overcome your stressors.

2. Reading. Reading is a great healthy distraction. Even reading something for only six minutes can reduce your stress levels quickly. So grab a happy book or funny newspaper article and take your mind off what is bothering you.

3. Exercise. Exercise is amazing for giving you endorphins, which help you relax and feel happy and it helps reduce stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. So whatever way you like to exercise, go for it! It can be running, walking, yoga, a dance class or taking a bike ride. Just start moving to help calm yourself down.

4. Use lavender. Lavender essential oils are great for reducing stress, whether you rub a little on yourself or diffuse it in the air. Even just inhaling the scent for a minute, you can reduce your stress levels. So grab a lavender candle to burn at your work desk when you start feeling frazzled.

5. Writing. Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you release negativity and reduce your stress levels. Even writing down a to-do list and prioritizing it can help you feel better.

6. Classical music. Music is always helpful when you’re feeling stressed, but classical music is best for reducing blood pressure, levels of cortisol and even lowering your heart rate.

7. Chewing gum. Chewing gum can actually lower your body’s levels of cortisol, which skyrocket when you’re stressed out. It helps relieve tension in your body too, so grab your favorite flavor of gum and get chewing.
