The weather can really wreak havoc on hair, especially for curly-haired or wavy-haired gals. Here are some tips to protect your hair this summer, no matter what the weather decides to do.
If the weather is windy and dry:
If you know the weather is very windy and/or dry, make sure to keep your hair deeply conditioned to fight dryness in the air. If you have wavy hair, try a leave-in treatment. If you have extra curly hair, try using scarves or putting your hair up when you have to go outside in the wind. It will help keep your hair out of your way. You may also want to use a little bit of gel with your usual cream based hair product to help keep your hairstyle in place all day, even with wind. If you have curly hair, use a strong pomade. If you have wavy hair, use hairspray to keep your hair untangled.
If the weather is humid and wet:
When it is rainy or humid or both, curly or wavy hair absorbs water from the air and will expand and get very frizzy. You will need to moisturize to combat the moisture in the air. If you have curly hair, don’t use humectants, but instead try sulfate-free cleansers. Use extra moisturizing shampoos and conditioners and try leave-in conditioner. To style, try using a humidity gel to prevent curls from expanding. Also try wearing twists or braids to minimize frizz and apply a smoothing serum to lock in moisture. If you have wavy hair, you’ll need to use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners as well. Don’t use a diffuser to style, but don’t go outside in the rain with wet hair. Try to let your hair dry naturally overnight and use serum to protect from frizz.
