You might notice that cannabidiol or CBD oil is popping up everywhere. So, what is CBD oil exactly? It is, in fact, a compound that comes from cannabis plants, but CBD oil does not contain THC and it will not get you high in any way.1 Think of it as getting some of the benefits from marijuana use without worrying about getting high or any of the illegal repercussions. CBD oil is edible and may be taken alone by a dropper and can also be sold in different food products or supplements.1

CBD oil has been touted as a way to help with anxiety. It can also be helpful if you suffer from chronic pain or inflammation, depression disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder or addiction.1

Some studies have been known to show that CBD oil can reduce these symptoms of social anxiety, other anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder or depression.1

However, some critics of the oil say that there haven’t been enough studies done and that most supplements or oils do not contain enough CBD to actually help.2 It may take 800 to 1,200 mg of CBD oil daily to actually achieve any relief from symptoms and most oils or supplements only contain less than 50 mg.2 People who say their anxiety or  have symptoms  that have been helped by CBD oil may be experiencing the placebo effect.2

The good news is that research has found relatively no negative side effects with those who try CBD oil.1 This means it may be a good option for those with anxiety or chronic pain who wish to try a more natural supplement or experience side effects from other medications. If you are unsure whether or not you should try CBD oil or if it is truly legal in your area, consult with your doctor first. If you do decide to buy, make sure you are getting CBD oil from a reputable dealer. CBD oil from China or other countries may contain toxins, so be wary as you shop and make sure to do your research!2
